Work the night shift at a forensic lab and run paper chromatography yourself. Pour the solvent, draw the start line, spot the samples and hang the paper. Then hold fast forward and take the paper out just before the solvent reaches the top. Mark the solvent front, measure to the centre of each spot and work out Rf values to catch a banned dye and test whether a dye is pure.
