AQA GCSE Chemistry · Potable water

Waterworks

Every town needs water that is safe to drink. Lay glass pipes from a river, a reservoir, a borehole or the sea, through the right treatment works, to the town. Then open the valve and watch: filter beds hold back solid bits, chlorine, ozone or UV light kill microbes, and distillation or reverse osmosis take out the salt, using lots of energy. Find out why potable water still isn't pure.
