Atoll Order

Keep a coral reef alive for 40 million years. A volcanic island in the tropical ocean is slowly sinking, and reef-building corals can only live in shallow, sunlit water. Grow the reef upwards fast enough and watch a fringing reef become a barrier reef and then an atoll: the Darwin-Dana-Daly theory. Then survive the ice ages and drill down through the reef you built.
